Independent workers: which office to choose?

You have finally started your own business after a long period of thinking, evaluating and re-evaluating your decision. If you are self-employed, you will face the dilemma of where to find the work location.

Does working from home, a coworking space, or buying real estate in your client’s neighborhood make more sense for your business? Here’s what we have to say about it!

COWORKING SPACE

Coworking space is well-suited for freelance work because it was designed primarily by and for independent workers, while also being able to accommodate small businesses.

In addition, the coworking space offers an opportunity for networking and collaboration. Flexibility is essential for many freelancers who shun the concept of office hours.

Another important advantage of this environment, still in development, is the extremely low rates, which can be explained by the principle of sharing costs between coworkers.

For the record, each coworking space has its own characteristics (layout, operation, services offered). Before making a final decision, we recommend that you test a few different coworking spaces.

CLIENT RESIDENCES

Being able to work in your client’s office is a great thing if you can get it. Provided you’re lucky, you’ll be able to work in an environment that’s conducive to success.

Keep in mind, however, that this solution may not be all good. Your client, colleagues or even the environment may be causing you undue stress. Unless you are used to working from home, it could be much more difficult than you expected.

Also, even if your first few projects allow you to work from your client’s home office, this is not a guarantee. Consider other options before making a final decision.

IN YOUR OWN HOME

An obvious advantage of working from home is that it is convenient and enjoyable. Working from home saves money on office rent and coworking membership dues. In this type of job, the freelancer is expected to be meticulous and well organized at all times.

It’s not uncommon for solopreneurs to alternate between working from home and a coworking space to break up the monotony of working alone and avoid procrastination.

BUSINESS CENTERS

Finally, let’s take a quick look at business centers. Although they are mainly aimed at companies, these places, which can be found near coworking spaces, can also offer services adapted to freelancers.

However, this is far from being the case, as evidenced by the wide range of services offered to clients. A rented office is less adaptable and therefore more expensive than a coworking space on average.

It is therefore advisable to choose the option that suits you best and if you are looking for more independence and flexibility, we recommend you choose coworking spaces such as the Color Business Center and you will not be disappointed.
